Before You Resign

With any luck this will be an easy decision and you'll be excited by the prospect of a fresh star at a new firm but for some there are a lot of considerations to take into account, so it may be a good idea to write a pros and cons list of your current firm and your new firm to see how they stack up on paper. You should also look closely at your motives for leaving and ask yourself if they will be remedied by moving firms.

Remember It’s Your Decision

Don’t be swayed by colleagues, friends, or extended family members, this is an important decision that will affect your life and you should be the one to make it, and it is best to leave emotions and sentiments at the door and make your decision using all the information you have.

Handling Your Resignation

Arrange a meeting with your manager and hand over your resignation letter here. Use understanding and empathy if the situation calls for it as your manager may not be as prepared for this particular situation as you are.

Be prepared to be put on gardening leave. This happens often and could mean that you’re out the door with all your possessions within 30 minutes of handing your resignation letter in. It can be an emotional time but is easily managed if you are prepared for the situation.
