Counter Offers In Use

Counter offers are a good way for employers to combat a shortfall in staff in the immediate future but in reality 80% of professionals that accept a counter offer leave within 6 months and 90% leave within a year.

Receiving A Counter Offer

If you receive a counter offer you need to ask yourself why you’ve only been offered this package now and not before and remind yourself of the reasons you wanted to leave in the first place, and have these issues being addressed?

You must also assume your firm has being looking for your replacement from day one and is actively exploring all possibilities which can really muddy the waters, and if you do accept the counter offer, you will likely find promotions harder to come by and your company loyalty will be in serious doubt for the long term.

Declining A Counter Offer

When you resign you should anticipate being met with a counter offer and should be prepared to decline it in most cases. You have already looked at all the available information and decided that starting at a new firm outweighs the benefits of staying at your current firm. In most cases the best course of action is to politely decline the offer.
