Interview Basics

interview basics

Before The Interview

Preparation is key to success, so once you've finished practicing your interview questions (which we have a separate article on) you should double check the time and location of the interview, plan your journey and check local weather and traffic conditions, and check all relevant documents are prepared. You should have all your clothes pressed and ready for the following morning and get a good night’s sleep.

During The Interview

It takes as little as one tenth of a second to form a first impression of someone, so meet your interviewer with a good handshake and a warm smile and engage the interviewer with interesting small talk. Look confident and keep a good level of eye contact and posture throughout the interview, stay calm and collected, and keep the ‘erm’s and ‘uh’s to an absolute minimum.

After The Interview

If there is something that you forgot to mention that you feel would have helped your case, of if there was a question you didn’t answer to the best of your ability, call your recruiter. They can speak to the interviewer on your behalf.
